Using the Browse by Topic feature
The Browse by Topic feature allows you to select a topic from a list and retrieve bills and regulations using a search created by research experts.
To use the Browse by Topic feature, follow these steps:
Click Search at the top of any page, then click Browse by Topic in the upper-right corner of the page. A list of topics for which searches are available is displayed.
Browse the list of topics by clicking folder names.
To select a topic to search and display the search, click the topic name.
By default, all jurisdictions are searched. To limit your search to one or more jurisdictions, click Change. Select one or more check boxes, the click Add to Search.
Click Continue to retrieve recent bills and regulations relating to the topic you selected.
While viewing the list of topics, click Tree View in the upper-right corner of the page to view the topics in outline format. Then click the plus (+) and minus (-) symbols to browse the list. To return to Web view, in which topics are arranged in folders, click Web View.
When you use the Browse by Topic feature, you search federal and state bills and regulations, including the following:
all available bills (introduced, amended, and enacted versions) from current and recently ended sessions of legislatures from all 50 states and the District of Columbia
all versions of bills and resolutions introduced in the current U.S. Congress
documents from the Federal Register, such as hearing notices and proposed regulations, from the last two years
proposed and recently adopted rules and regulations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia from the last two years
